Sioux City Gran Canaria
Now before we start, this Sioux City is not the one in the US. I say this because when I posted some photos of it on my Instagram feed, a few people thought I was visiting the US…
…No, this Sioux City is based in Gran Canaria and is one of the 7 Canary Islands that belong to Spain. If you ever get the chance to visit Gran Canaria, you should definitely head to Sioux City Park! It´s a great place to hang out as a family for a day and the kids will love it!!
Step back in time
From the moment you step into the park, you are transported back to an old western movie. I´m pretty sure we saw Clint Eastwood there 😉 The whole experience is super authentic and the park has really made a lot of effort (in every detail) to ensure you never forget the time you spent there.
What you´ll see
The park consists of the main road where they host most of the shows; a saloon where you can grab something to eat or drink, and then watch Miss Dolly perform; an animal farm complete with buffalos, old buildings that include an exact replica of how a school looked during the wild wild west; a little church (so darn cute!); a graveyard; a prison; an Indian camp complete with the tents and fire stake, etc etc
It´s great to be transported back in time for a day but to be honest, I´m really glad I didn´t live during those times because I think the people were pretty rough and mean (based on old western movies I´ve seen)…
I made a video too!
If you would like to see more of the inside of the school, click here to see the video I made on the day. I had so much fun shooting at this park and in the video, you get to experience what we experienced. It´s not first hand but it´s seriously close!
Please leave a comment below the video (on my YouTube channel) because I would love to know what you guys thought of it?!
Our favourites
Our favourite part of the day was the shows in the main street that included comedies, rodeos, cowboys and Indians and so much more… The sounds of the horses running past took our breaths away. There was dust everywhere which added to the ambiance. The actors did a pretty darn good job too!
Events they host
Sioux City Park also caters for weddings, baptisms and other special events. While enjoying our bbq style lunch I told my daughter I could totally see her having her wedding there one day. Complete with a corset style wedding dress, a wagon, and Cowboys. Just imagine?! I´m not so sure she liked the idea…
Let me know in the comments below if you guys have been there or similar parks in the world. I would love to know!!

RESOURCES
I often get asked about the equipment I use when traveling. I mean this is the only real thing you´ll keep from your trip and therefore it needs to be really good! The camera I use for my blog photos is the Canon T3i/600D EOS (with the Canon STM 50mm 1.8 lens). I would like to upgrade to the Canon EOS 5D Mark III (however my budget does not allow for it yet) because of its full frame (22MP full frame CMOS) sensor capacity. My current camera has a cropped frame which means I need to stand further away from my subject when I shoot.
Then, I use the Osmos DJI Mobile for my videos/vlogs. I love the Osmo Mobile because you control it via an app on any Android or IOS phone. It seriously has changed the way my travel videos look! Some of its features are:
- Active Track technology, automatically keep your smart phone facing you as you move
- Smooths and even cancels out the movements you make, stopping camera shake and turning every shot into a cinematic video!

Wow, what a unique park! You could’ve told me you were somewhere out in the western US, and I would’ve believed you in a heartbeat! Sounds like you guys had fun, and those photos are amazing! Also, I’ve got to say that it reminded me a little bit of Westworld. Did you watch that one on Netflix? It’s cool, but also a little disconcerting at the same time! Thanks for posting this one, Johlene! 🙂
