Love red velvet cake? Then you´ll love this super delicious red velvet hot chocolate!
About a year ago I stumbled upon the blog Sugar Hero while I was searching for some ideas on a mint and chocolate recipes. The moment I found Elizabeth´s blog I couldn´t stop myself checking her archive of recipes!
So there´s a point to my rambling.. Recently she posted a few hot chocolate recipes and they inspired me to create this RED VELVET HOT CHOCOLATE recipe!
Ingredients
- 1 & 1/2 cups of semi skimmed or full cream milk
- 1/2 cup of heavy cream
- 1 heaped teaspoon of good quality cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla essence
- red food colorant. I used Wilton gel colorant in the colour red red
- 4 teaspoons of granulated white sugar
- 150g of chopped white chocolate
- whipping cream
Instructions
- Warm the milk, cream, sugar & cocoa on medium heat on stove top stirring at times.
- While your mixture is heating up, whisk your cream for the topping in a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment (when I whip cream I always leave my cream, bowl and whisk attachment in the freezer until well cooled before whipping) by starting on low medium speed and once bubbles form, gradually increase the speed to medium high.. whip until medium peaks form..
- As soon as your milk mixture starts to simmer, take it off the heat & quickly add the chopped white chocolate.
- When the chocolate has melted, add the vanilla essence and colorant.
- Top with the fresh whipping cream and serve while hot!
This homemade hot chocolate drink has the texture of a red velvet cake.. smooth, rich and creamy!
One more thing.. did you guys manage to spot the heart brownies on the 1st photo (and the one here below)? They were made of the same batch of my previous post but I used heart cookie cutters to cut them out and covered them with the same ganache. Perfect with these red velvet hot chocolates!
I am SO HAPPY you created this recipe! A few years ago The Coffee Bean had this just for the Holidays and I have never been able to find it again! It was so yummy! YEAH!!
Wonderful!! I never had the one at the Coffee Bean.. I hope this one tastes as good 🙂
Wow, these sound divine. It is Summer here in NZ but I am going to give these a go anyway!
