Using Chalk Paint DIY Signs
Using Chalk Paint to make DIY Signs from wood and mason jars!
I made this sign with chalk paint (3 different colours), a mason jar, natural rope, gold hooks, letter decals and a fake peony for my mother-in-law for Mother´s Day here in Spain. Hogar Dulce Hogar means Home Sweet Home.
The next one I will be making will be for my patio (in pastel blue) but will read HOME SWEET HOME. However that needs to wait for next week because this week is and will be absolutely crazy in our house! Not only do I have a ton of things to do for my Mother´s Day posts and video, but also Luca´s Avengers 7th birthday party is this Saturday…
I saw these signs for the first time on Pinterest which linked to an Etsy site that made them, and really liked it! I get most of my inspiration from Pinterest – what about you guys??
The 3 different chalk paint colours I used was antique rose, charcoal and stone grey. I´ve linked similar products on Amazon for you guys to see the colours I´m referring to.
I only painted one coat of the pink antique rose, let it dry, and then added some of the charcoal on the outside, and bits of the stone grey on the inside. If you look closely at the board you´ll see it what I mean..
I also painted the mason jar in the same light grey colour and stuck it onto the board with some E6000 and allowed it to dry overnight. The next step was to add the hooks which I just screwed (ok to be honest I got my teenager to help me cause it turns out she´s stronger than me!) into the board at the top making sure they were even on both sides.
I then added the rope using this knot tying method I saw on YouTube. The last thing I did (except for adding the fake peony to the mason jar) was to add the printed letters. I tried my very best to make sure they were aligned by using a ruler. I think it turned out ok.. I got my letters printed by our local printer on glossy “sticker” paper. I needed to cut out the letters individually because they couldn´t cut it for me (on the day) and I didn´t have time to go back on another day.
You can buy letter decals on Amazon but getting it done at your local printer would be much cheaper!
If you´re not into DIY and you like this sign, you can buy similar ones on Etsy for around $38. I made mine for about 20€ but I´m sure if I tried harder (or had more time) I would have been able to make it for cheaper. I loved making it so the cost for me was worthit. I hope my mother-in-law likes it 😉
I made a YouTube video telling you guys exactly how I made this. Click here to watch that! (the video will be live in the next couple o days!)
Happy week guys!

I love that rustic look! Seriously. I’ve always loved wood and exposed brick and that sort of thing. These signs are so much fun, and I can see why you made this one for your Mom! 🙂
Me too David! I want an exposed brick wall in my kitchen. The English Country theme has always appealed to me 🙂
