Easy Sweet Potato Pie Dip topped with toasted buttery candied pecans! A great SUBSTITUTION for a SWEET POTATO PECAN PIE but so much easier and faster to make! You will be the talk of the town (or your family) on Thanksgiving Day!
Easy Sweet Potato Pie Dip
Yes, I might not be American or Canadian but I have friends from there and we´re going to celebrate Thanksgiving with them this year. I love making the dishes they love and remind them of this time of year, it helps being so far from home *smile*.
So to make this cheaters version of the real deal. Not that I´m saying this is not the real deal! Cause it IS! It tastes so good….
Start off with a base of creamy (in fact so creamy it´s made with full cream!), sweet potato (see the image below) mixed with the sweetener of your choice. Maple. Honey. Corn Syrup. Golden Syrup. Whatever tickles your fancy. The only thing I´m going to say is, the more, the better!
Oh and don´t forget to add the vanilla extract. Desserts always taste better with vanilla extract 🙂
Ingredients
- per serving (1 - 2 people)
- 2 heaped tablespoons cooked and mashed sweet potato (warmed)
- 1 - 2 tablespoons full cream
- 2 tablespoons maple, corn syrup, honey or golden syrup (whichever you love more!)
- 0.50 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 0.50 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.33 teaspoon ginger
- pinch of salt
- whole pecan nuts
- 0.5 to 1 tablespoon melted unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
Instructions
- Whisk all the ingredients well together and scoop into your dish (I served these as individual portions).
- Top the sweet potato base mix with the whole pecans, brown sugar and drizzle the butter over.
- Grill under the broiler/grill for around 5 minutes or until the butter starts boiling and the pecan nuts have toasted golden brown.
- SERVE IMMEDIATELY with your favorite cookie. Gingersnaps work really well with this.

In my previous post I shared with you an easy pumpkin pie parfait recipe and today this easy sweet potato pie dip. I also have the best Turkey recipe to make in your Crockpot that will only take a few minutes of you chopping a few things up, closing the lid and re-opening it hours later to discover something so amazing…
Yet another dish that doesn´t take any effort at all.. Anyone care to see that one?
Oh and I nearly forgot to remind you guys about my deep fried apple pies (apple pie chimichangas) that replaces traditional apple pie. It only needs a few ingredients, and is so easy to make, you´ll think I´m joking…
This might be your easiest pre-Thanksgiving ever! 🙂

Thanks Alice! I have a weakness for sweet potato mixed with sugar 🙂
Absolutely love this idea Johlene! We ate sweet potato pies and casseroles ALOT growing up in the South, and combining them with those candied pecans is brilliant 🙂 Totally putting this on my Thanksgiving menu!
I hope you make it Paige! I would have loved growing up in the south of the US, the food always sounds amazing!
Sweet potato is a little project for me this winter, I don’t cook with them much so am working on finding enough recipes to see if they warrant a spot in our veggie patches next year… This sounds amazing!
I’ve always wanted a veggie patch! One day.. 🙂
What a delicious treat! I’m sure your American friends appreciate the taste of home so far away! Thanks for linking up to Merry Monday! I’ve pinned and tweeted this!
Thanks Megan 🙂 I hope they appreciate it too!

OMG, Johlene! This sweet potato pie dip looks craaaazy delicious!! Like, I want to face plant into a big ‘ole bowl of this! The buttery candied pecans on top just takes this dip to the next level of yum! This is perfect for Thanksgiving and wayyy better than an actual sweet potato pie if you ask me! Pinned! Cheers!

Your recipes are absolutely amazing and creative. I love sweet potatoes, I know this dip has to be divine!!
Thanks Whitney! I love sweet potatoes too and think of it as the dessert of potatoes 🙂
I totally agree…vanilla extract makes every dessert better! But this sweet potato pipe dip…I love it! Sweet potato pie is a classic comfort food from growing up in the southern part of the US, so of course I would love this dip version, too!
I can imagine how you used to devour the most delicious sweet potato caseroles out there! YUM!
This is such a great idea to use sweet potato & love that you added pecans too. So Yummm!
Thank you Molly! Pecans go so well with sweet potatoes, don’t they? 🙂
This is such a great dip! Love all the flavors.
Thanks Nicole!
I actually like the you’ve categorized this as a dessert dip and not a side dish! I love sweet potatoes, and sweet things, but not together as a side dish. This seems like the perfect way to get just the right about of sweet at the end of the meal. So colorful too!
Thanks Mary!! I would categorize it as a dessert, an apetizer, a side dish. Everything. That´s how much I love it! lol
I’ve never thought to make sweet potato pie in a dip before. That is a brilliant idea!
Thanks Jenn! It´s easy, quick and taste like the real deal!! 🙂
