This delicious Apple Pie Chimichanga is made with Mexican flour tortillas filled with tangy apple pie filling, deep fried and rolled into a cinnamon sugar mix. Heaven!

I´m so excited (and I just can´t hide it!)
This concept is super unique and you’ve probably never thought about doing it on your own. Neither did I! A magical combination of Mexican and Southern food. My family had so much fun making and devouring these, and I can assure you, you will too! The best part: they´re super easy to make and they taste just like real apple pie!
Chimi WHAT?
Now, if you’re not used to Mexican cooking. just the name chimichanga might intimidate you, but don’t worry: a chimichanga is just a deep fried burrito. This one is of course is a dessert version! This super yummy deep fried tortilla is stuffed with traditional apple pie filling, a sure favourite for anyone who loves apple pie. Add the subtler tastes of the sweetness of sugar and the spiciness of cinnamon-and the finale is like fireworks in your mouth.
All the amazing flavors combined in this chimichanga recipe, are sure to make you want MORE every time!
Ingredients
- Mexican Flour Tortillas (1 for each apple pie chimichanga)
- Your favourite Apple Pie Filling (2 heaped teaspoons per chimichanga)
- Egg White (to hold the chimichanga together)
- Oil (flavourless like Canola or Vegetable Oil)
- White Sugar
- Ground Cinnamon (Typical proportions of sugar to cinnamon: 1/4 cup granulated sugar to 3-4 teaspoons ground cinnamon).
Instructions
- Heat up your oil
- Fill each Mexican flour tortilla with 2 heaped tablespoons of apple pie filling
- To fold it go check this video at 1 min 16 secs
- Deep fry for a few minutes on both sides until golden brown
- Remove the excess oil by placing them on a plate lined/topped with paper towels
- Roll your apple pie chimichangas in the sugar and cinnamon mixture.
- You´re done!
This recipe is especially great because it offers you options with your apples. You can take the homemade route to your apple pie filling, cooking it yourself.. or if you’re not in the mood, or don’t have the time, there is a multitude of canned apple pie filling choices available at Amazon. So whichever way you like to cook, you can take this recipe and totally rock it, your style.
