We recently went on our very first cruise and since cruising has become such a popular mode of travel for many, I thought I´d share my take on the advantages and disadvantages of cruising.
I have to add, even though some of these cons definitely reflect how we felt, we would be back on a cruise ship in a heartbeat because we loved it!
DISADVANTAGES OF CRUISING
- All-Inclusive Experience: Many cruises offer packages that include accommodation, food, entertainment, and various activities, making it a hassle-free vacation where you can enjoy without worrying about the details.
- Multiple Destinations, One Trip: Cruises allow you to visit several places in one journey, giving you a taste of different cultures and landscapes without the need to pack and unpack at each stop.
- Entertainment and Activities: There’s never a dull moment on a cruise with a ton of activities and entertainment options available onboard, the shows being my favourite.
- Luxury and Comfort: Modern cruises are equipped with comfortable and luxurious accommodations, ensuring a pleasant stay as you travel from one destination to another.
- Family-Friendly: Cruises often cater to all ages, making them an ideal choice for family vacations with activities and clubs for children and teens.

DISADVANTAGES OF CRUISING
- Crowds and Queues: Cruises can be crowded, and with many people trying to enjoy the same amenities, you might find yourself waiting in lines more often than you’d like.
- Limited Exploration Time: While you get to visit multiple locations, the time spent in each port is often limited, which can restrict how much you can see and do.
- Additional Costs: While your ticket may cover the basics, expenses like shore excursions, specialty dining, and onboard purchases can add up quickly.
- Environmental Impact: Cruises are often criticized for their environmental footprint, from fuel consumption to waste management issues.
- Potential for Seasickness: If you’re prone to motion sickness, the movement of the ship can be a challenge, although modern ships are designed to minimize this issue.

Cruising can be a dream vacation with its convenience and variety, but it’s wise to consider the downsides like the additional costs and limited time ashore. Whether it’s right for you depends on your travel style and what you’re looking for in a holiday. Happy travels!Travel Resources
