This Recipe for chocolate covered cherries is so easy to make, and they taste just like the Cherry Chocolate Liqueurs you buy in the supermarket. These are just better, cause they´re HANDMADE!
Since I can remember I love buying the Cherry Liqueur Chocolates. There are so many brands to choose from – I don´t really have a favourite, but oh how I love them. The more liqueur the better. The juicier! Yummm!
Come to think of it, I don´t really think these are meant for sharing.. In actual fact this shouldn´t be a Valentine´s Day post at all. Let´s face it, these are to enjoy by yourself, with no one watching (or judging).. just you, and your delicious handmade chocolate liqueurs. De acuerdo?
If I knew they were this easy to make (this is my verrrry own recipe) I would have done it a looooong time ago. I love handmade things. Especially chocolates!
The only real expense is that you´ll have is to buy the plastic chocolate molds but they are relatively cheap to buy online.
Ingredients
- 3 Maraschino Cherries (cut in quarters)
- 6 teaspoons Liqueur (I used Honey Rum)
- 150g Dark Chocolate
- Plastic Chocolate Molds
Instructions
- Melt the dark chocolate in the microwave at 30 second intervals until melted (takes aprox 2 minutes).
- Use a small paint brush to paint a thin layer of the melted dark chocolate onto each whole in the mold. Allow to set for a few minutes in the freezer.
- Repeat #2.
- Add a half teaspoon liqueur to each hole.
- Add a 1/4 cherry on top of the liqueur.
- Top and fill with more melted dark chocolate.
- Level with a offset spatula.
- Allow to set in the freezer for about 10 minutes.
- Enjoy or keep in an airtight container for a few weeks.
Notes
150g chocolate is sufficient for one mold of 12 holes.
Size of cherries and liqueur measurement depends on the size of the hole in the molds.
I can´t believe it´s already Monday. Where did the weekend go? We got the go ahead to bath Chase for the first time since we got him just over 1 month ago. The poor fella had the flue and even was on antibiotics. But now he is all better and sparkly clean! We even bought him some doggy cologne to smell, well not as much as doggy, because as much as I love Chase, I don´t love the smell of dog. Especially wet dog. The cologne smells like baby powder and I love it!
Just a few more days and then it´s the day, Valentine´s Day, the day of L-O-V-E… any special plans..?
Happy Week Guys!!

My friend hates candy but LOVES these and always has some in her cabinet. Dark chocolate would be her favorite! Thanks for linking up with the Delicious Dishes Recipe party!
These are also a favourite of mine, I just wish I made them sooner 😉 🙂
It wouldn’t be Valentine’s Day without chocolate, right?! I’m always going to be here for some homemade goodies, for sure. And I love your candy molds–so pretty!
Right!! Nothing better than something homemade, and the more I bake and cook, the less I enjoy food out of the house!
ps. I bought my molds at Ikea for dirt cheap 🙂
I want some of these right now!! YUM.
Ahhh wish I could send you a box over…
When I was growing up my mom’s absolute favorite candy was chocolate covered cherries. She would go crazy for these. I’m definitely going to have to surprise her with them sometime. ?
You should Amanda! They´re easier than you think 🙂
Johlene, I can’t believe you made these!!! These are perfection!! and the perfect sweets for Valentine’s Day!!! love!
Ah you´re so sweet Alice! Thank YOU!! Xo
What a fun idea! I’ve never thought about making my own version of these at home. But here’s a fun bonus–if I make my own, then I can play with what kind of liqueur to use. Or maybe I’ll just go straight to the bourbon. Bourbon Cherry Chocolates totally sound good, right? Thanks for sharing this one!!
Neither did I David. The more I spend time in the kitchen, the more I realise that EVERYthing can be made at home 🙂 ps. Bourbon Cherry Chocolates sound amazinggggg 🙂
OMG, who doesn’t love those Cherry Liqueur Chocolates?! Even I LOVE them and I am allergic to chocolate. 😉 I adore that you turned these into a DIY! SO clever! I MUST make these for the Hubster for Valentines Day! I know he will flip over these! Pinned! Cheers, friend!
Yes! Who doesn’t!? 🙂 Unfortunately I don’t think these would work with white chocolate… sorry!! 🙁 ps. Let me know what the Hubster thinks..
