Three Kings Day has come and gone and tomorrow the children go back to school here in Gran Canaria and our Xmas holiday festivities will be a distant memory but I hope to keep some special moments close to my heart, for example watching my son´s face when he opened his presents.. spending quality time with my kids.. laughing with my husband.. those things that no Santa Claus or Three Kings can give us 😉
Even though the festivities have ended it doesn´t mean we can´t continue to celebrate.. for example life.. We always have reasons to celebrate!! So I decided to continue the celebrations on my side with these delicious Salted Pretzel & Caramel cupcakes 🙂 These cupcakes were delicious, the saltiness of the pretzel broke through the sharp sweetness of the caramel and left just the perfect taste sensation in my mouth.. nothing too overbearing..
Pretzels are not something we bake with in South Africa so to use them in cupcakes is a new experience for me.. We could (they still can) however buy them as a snack and my favourite flavour use to be honey & mustard, I´m not kidding its delicious.. but I´m not sure if I could incorporate those flavours in a cupcake (honey & mustard) but then again after watching tons of Cupcake Maniac episodes everything seems possible 😉
To make these, you would need to follow/print the RECIPE by clicking on the pretzel below..
There are 3 components to this recipe, first you need to bake your cupcakes; secondly make your caramel sauce and thirdly make your caramel frosting.. oh and before I forget you need a good bag of salted pretzels (the half crushed and the other left whole, you´ll see why when you read the recipe..).
If you like the taste of sweet and salty together, you´ll like these cupcakes.. they´re perfect for those cold winter days because the richness of the caramel flavour will soothe you..
I would like to wish you all (once again) a very Happy New Year and if you haven´t heard me (read me) say so before, I am truely grateful for each one of you that take the time out to read and comment on my blog posts!!! THANK YOU from the bottom-EST part of my Heart 🙂

Oh Johlene, I LOVE this post. I love this –>spending quality time with my kids.. laughing with my husband.. those things that no Santa Claus or Three Kings can give us ;-). I love that you’re continuing to celebrate, I love learning that you don’t typically bake with pretzels in South Africa and I love, love, love how you love and appreciate your readers.
